Brooklyn, NY: malene b Custom Handmade Carpets officially launches its new line at the HD Boutique Show in Miami, FL September 14 -15, 2009.  malene b specializes in custom handmade carpets designed by principal and lead designer, Malene Barnett.  The “Signature Collection”, comprised of six patterns paying homage to world art, nature and global lifestyles will be displayed at the HD Boutique show in booth # 849.

malene b is the inspiration of  Malene Barnett, a Brooklyn, NY based, African American carpet designer with a multi-disciplinary background in textile arts, painting and illustration.  Creating unique, handmade carpets, inspired by her international travels, she boldly interprets cultural icons, landscapes and rituals in an entirely fresh and personal way.  From a blank canvas, Malene personally designs each carpet to perfectly suit unique residential, commercial or hospitality environments.  malene b specializes in Tibetan hand knotted wool, New Zealand hand tufted wool and wool/silk options.

The Signature Collection takes you on a global journey drawing from century old traditions with modern innovation.  Within the collection, the Wolof design celebrates the traditional garments of the Wolof people of Senegal.  It is offered in New Zealand hand tufted wool using a hand-sculpted technique.  Mehndi interprets the 5000-year-old tradition of adorning a Hindu bride’s hands with Henna.  It is offered in cut and loop pile using double thick yarns of New Zealand wool.  Papunya reinterprets Aboriginal “Dot Art” paintings in a multi-dimensional cut and loop New Zealand wool carpet.

All malene b carpets are made to order in any size, shape or color and feature three-dimensional hand sculpturing techniques.  In addition to the signature color library, yarns may be custom dyed.  Suggested list prices: New Zealand hand tufted wool starting at $75 sqft, Tibetan 100 knot wool starting at $95 sqft, and Tibetan 100 knot wool/silk starting at $125 sqft.
