Being Selfish: Homemade Sugar Scrub
This year I’m making an effort to address my addiction: sugar. Kicking addictive habits is never easy but I’m up for the challenge. First order of business, what do I do with all the extra sugar? I decided to look for a sugar scrub recipe instead of throwing away the bag. With this New York cold attacking my skin, a weekly sugar scrub will do the body good. Thanks to The idea room I found a simple recipe that combines two of my favorite scents, Cinnamon & Vanilla. That combination definitely reminds me of the Caribbean. Don’t forget to check your cupboard before you go shopping, you may already have all of the ingredients.
Here is your shopping list
If you want a one-stop shop, Amazon has everything you need.
Olive Oil, Coconut Oil or Almond Oil( I used a combination of olive oil and almond oil)
Raw Cane Sugar
Cinnamon Essential Oil (Amazon or Whole Foods)
Jar ( A Dollar Store, Michaels, or Container Store)
Cinnamon Vanilla Sugar Scrub
1/2 cup Raw Cane Sugar (baking aisle)
up to 1/4 cup oil (Olive Oil, Almond Oil, or Coconut Oil)
1/2 tsp. Vanilla Extract or Essential Oil
2-3 drops of Cinnamon Essential Oil
dash of cinnamon (optional)
It's so easy from here, mix the sugar, vanilla and essential oils together. Then gradually add the olive, almond or coconut oil. You can definitely add as much oil as you like, I like my scrub to be on the oily side. And voila, you’re done! Wasn’t that easy?
You can experiment with different essential oils to create your favorite scents. I would love to hear about what you came up with. Share your new fragrance and get ready to be transported to a tropical isIand.
